Throughout my life, I have too often allowed my relationship with God to be confounded by the institution of church. It is never a good look. The church (the people. the work. the structure.) was my first love. I knew its love before I understood the impact of Jesus’ story and when it broke my heart… I distanced myself from God. <– Bad Business. {{ Cue my latestest tweet. }}

Perry Noble, “When you fall in love with Jesus, you can overlook the flaws in the program and the process.” http://www.newspring.cc/

Now, I didn’t watch the entire service. Nor could I agree with all of its tenants (I suppose I’m not as hardcore as the NewSpring crew), but the single aforementioned statement is an amazing philosophy. It empowers all of those persons that think that Church sucks and that Christians are _________ (fill in the blank — negative connotations only, please), to look past all of those shortcomings and peer into truth, into Jesus. Obviously, this philosophy is not something that I have always known but I am grateful that it is one I have learned and will always teach. Having been raised with more denominational loyalty than religion, its an imperative point that cannot be emphasized enough, especially to our youth. And though I wish I could, I couldn’t have said it as succinct as Perry Noble.

twspassionplay1Have I mentioned lately how much I love the intersection of Technology & the Ecclesia? If I haven’t, let it be known that it makes me want to GET ON MY FACE (surrender/sacrifice/pray) and be a better disciple.

The Trinity Church (@ Wall Street), is tweeting the passion play on this Good Friday. It is really blessing my life to see these different perspectives of people, narrated as Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was taking place. You can follow it too… @twspassionplay! I almost wish that I had taken off to go to church! Maybe I’ll go tonight.

I NEVER know how to qualify the vocational niche of extending the community and ministry of the church onto the web. Hmmm, that statement is actually getting closer but it leaves out my passion for visual media (graphic design, video sermons etc. that doesn’t fall into the web category). Subsequently, when ‘drilled’ I ramble passionately.

At a Board of Examiners meeting I often steered their questions concerning vocation towards the aforementioned qualifications. I was trying to prove that just because I am not called to pastor, and just because I am not living where my membership is based (insert portions of the AMEZ Discipline that discuss membership and the path from calling to ordination) doesn’t mean that I will not function within the life of the church. Perhaps not in the life of ‘one’ local church but I plan on equipping many local churches.

I plan on serving with excellence, conviction and passion. I’m a long way off but that’s the plan. Daily I surround myself with people that work within this vocation and produce amazing things for their employers (via twitter/blogs etc.).

Banging this out into the blogosphere is the result of the following tweets.

Answer - Screen Capture Spaz

Why black churches in mainstream denominations? Partially because it is my background but ultimately because I know there is a need.
